The Copper Development Association commissioned original research to study the high-speed machining of brass and discover just how efficient, cost effective and productive this material can be. Based on a real-world test that produced an American national standard hose coupling with internal threads, an outer-diameter and inner-diameter groove, and faced ends, we quickly discovered how fast brass can run – and how much that performance gets underestimated.

Brass saved cycle time, which equals money. It caused almost non-existent tool wear at high speeds. Even an 8-hour shift of continuous high-speed production ran on a single set of tools. And brass’s speed achieved nearly a 40-percent increase in productivity over conventional production.
